This day was established with the aim of raising awareness of reducing energy consumption by switching off unnecessary lights and electrical devices, and its absolute eco-sustainable value was recognised by the European Parliament in 2008 and subsequently also by ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) and the Italian government.
